The University of Edinburgh’s department of Asian Studies would like to invite submissions for the working paper series: New Ideas in East Asian Studies

The aim of this series is to provide a venue in which to articulate new theories, methodologies and arguments that have the potential to take research on East Asia in new directions. Interdisciplinary investigations, novel theoretical or methodological approaches, new materials, and work that takes a broader regional approach are all encouraged. We especially encourage submissions from postgraduate students, PhD candidates, and early career researchers.

We are currently accepting submissions of articles that address questions relating to the following:

  • Literature and traditional arts

  • Politics and international relations

  • Film and media studies

  • Religions

Articles should be between 4000-6000 words in length, referenced in Harvard style, and should be submitted either as a Microsoft Word document or as a PDF. Text should be 1.5 spaced and in 12pt font. Inclusion of images, graphs and tables is encouraged provided they do not infringe copyright.

Please note that articles will be subject to editorial screening before being peer reviewed.

For more information or to submit an article, please contact Dr Chris Perkins:
