Chienwei Pan received his B.A. in the Department of English at National Chengchi University and his M.A. in the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures at National Taiwan University. He had been a full-time research assistant in the Institute of Chinese Literature and Philosophy, Academic Sinica, before beginning his current doctoral research in the Department of Asian Studies at the University of Edinburgh.
After Hunger: Culinary Nostalgia in Taiwanese Literature and Culture, 1949-Present
Chienwei’s research focuses on the interrelation between modern Chinese food narrative and its concurrent cultural/social context. His doctoral thesis aims to explore different Taiwanese writers’ nostalgic feelings for their hometown specialties and how their affective responses reflect (or sometimes intervene) their concurrent cultural/social situations from 1949 to the present.
